WORK & VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY
Position: Housekeeping/
dog Handler
Type: Summer Employment & Volunteering
Organization: Arctic Chalet Ltd.
http://www.arcticchalet.com
Location: Inuvik, Northwest Territories

The Arctic Chalet is a beautifully landscaped Eco-friendly, non-smoking tourist establishment located in the Canadian Arctic on the outskirts of Inuvik, Northwest Territories. We provide beautiful cabin accommodations and Eco-friendly adventure tours above the Arctic circle.

We are looking for two healthy, PHYSICALLY FIT people who have experience working with huskies or other animals and are passionate about dogs and who would enjoy helping to care of our wonderful white Arctic huskies. This position is open for the summer months of June, July and August or longer and involves helping with our dog kennel operations and performing housekeeping and office duties for our tourist accommodation business. Other dates may be available.

We are offering a monthly salary of $1200. We provide free staff housing. Each person gets his or her own bedroom or a cabin for two, with heat and electricity - no plumbing. Bathrooms and a staff kitchen are separate but easy to access. Staff also have access to our laundry facility and are provided with transportation to town once a week for groceries. A limited amount of WIFI is also available for communication with family and friends via email.

Our employees and volunteers learn many new skills such as driving ATV , on tours and on training runs. The experience working with our huskies is the real highlight of this northern Arctic experience!

We run a split schedule between working with the dogs and doing other chores and the schedule can vary from day to day requiring flexibility.

Kennel duties include feeding, watering, cleaning dog pens and doing other jobs that involve dog care and training. In summer we use 4-wheeler ATVs for training and for short tours. We are looking for people who are good with animals and can relate well to them and also to people.

A valid Canadian work permit and driver’s license is required. We work a full day, 6 days per week with one day off usually on Saturday. On Saturdays staff alternate for dog kennel chores.

As we live in a natural environment we hire staff who are interested in spending time out in nature. We do an awesome staff hike in the Richardson mountains every summer. Staff enjoy canoeing and fishing right here from the property and there are many hiking trails through the bush.

Because of the clientele that we serve we require staff members to be clean, neat and tidy in their personal appearance to meet our conservative company standards. We are a non-smoking/drinking and a drug-free establishment and our employees adhere to that policy. They must have no inappropriate or large tattoos, or body piercings or unnatural hair colors or stiles.

If you are adventurous, have a passion for dogs, love nature, enjoy being outside, have a happy attitude and are not afraid of hard work, this opportunity may be perfect for you. We will try to give you the best possible Arctic experience in exchange for your helpful efforts!

We look forward to meeting you and having you join our big happy family in the Arctic! That includes all of our white furry family members.
