Play Grounds is proud to be environmentally conscious and utilizes renewable resources, green toys and equipment, natural and organic offerings, and biodegradable cleaning methods.

As the business has grown, so has Jeni’s work load! She’s looking for a smart, fun, and hard-working individual who has a keen eye and is light on their feet to help her not only manage staff but provide quality control and assist in the day-to-day operation of the cafe. Direct experience in a café setting is preferred, but any candidate will similar values and a great work ethic will be highly considered. Training will be provided.


Purpose of the position

We are looking for a high functioning individual who can be a leader but also be able to work within company parameters to fulfill a full-time Cafe Manager role. As Café Manager, you will assist in delivering the high-quality products Play Grounds has become known for and lead our staff in providing excellent customer service and sales.
You will maintain the cafe’s revenue, profitability, and quality goals. You will implement and supervise efficient operations and procedures, and ensure high production, productivity, quality, sales, and customer-service standards.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need management skills and a serious knack for multi-tasking. You will oversee the space, provide food and coffee, check-in with customers, and maintain effective communication between all staff members.

We’ll expect you to lead by example and uplift our staff during busy moments in our fast-paced environment. Customer experience and community impact are our goals both internally and through external relations and we require an individual that embodies those goals.
Responsibilities & duties
• Coordinate daily Front and Back of House operations.
• Lead the team in delivering excellent customer service and sales.
• Respond appropriately to customer and/or employee complaints.
• Provide quality control (food, coffee, and the physical environment of the café).
• Organize schedules and handle staffing conflicts as they come up.
• Supervise staff to ensure compliance with policies, protocol and regular duties.
• Monitor staff performance, lead daily staff meetings, and provide staff reviews.
• Report to owner & general manager and work with her to meet company goals.
• Estimate future needs for goods, kitchen utensils, and cleaning products.
• Monitor inventory and maintain grocery list.
• Liaise with the kitchen manager to ensure food needs are communicated and the café is stocked with prepared goods.
• Be knowledgeable of and trained on all cafe machinery, operate machines when needed.
• Ensure compliance with sanitation and safety regulations.
• Maintain café’s image and suggest ways to improve upon it.
• Be an advocate of our brand and facility.
• Train new and current employees on operations, protocol, and proper customer service & sales practices.

Qualifications
• High School diploma and a minimum of 5 years’ work experience
• Post-Secondary education is a plus, specifically in culinary arts, business, management, marketing or human resources
• Current Food Safe and Serving It Right certification.

Work experience & skills
• Over 5 years of retail, customer service, restaurant experience
• Management or supervisorial experience
• Food service, coffee service, or restaurant experience or firm understanding of food handling and quality control
