Chaudiere Lodge is a 70 year old fishing lodge located on an island on Ontario?s Upper French River (90 minutes from North Bay). The lodge is comprised of a main house (lounge, dining room and kitchen) and 14 cottages set on 17 acres. Maximum occupancy is 44 guests. Season is May through mid-September.
Guests: The lodge?s guests are mostly (70%) returning customers comprised of families, couples and small mixed groups.
Service Levels: Guest to Staff ratio is 3:1. Staff members are assigned individual responsibility for guest service in both dining room and housekeeping for the duration of the guest?s visit. This 6 -year old policy has increased gratuities by 300+% since inception. The lodge is an affiliate of Resort Condominiums International (the world?s largest resort timeshare company) and has earned its Resort of International Distinction Award for service for six straight years. The food service has been guest rated as 5-star.
Staff Accommodations and Compensation: Staff is housed in a 5- year old building comprised of: 6 single rooms (3 male, 3 female) and 4 double rooms with sliding partitions (2 male, 2 female); separate bathroom facilities. There is also a staff recreation room with satellite TV and a screened-in porch; staff has its own dining room. Experienced staff has use of marine equipment. Hourly pay is 8.00, with average workweek of approximately 44-48 hours. Seasonal employee compensation for dining room staff exceeded $8,700 for 2007.
Job description: Standard dining room service for breakfast, lunch and dinner with periodic rotation through pantry and dish. Cottage housekeeping function is generally performed prior to lunch. Appropriate prior experience is desired but not necessary. One employee will be assigned as Dining Room Manager. Preference is given to students in hospitality studies.
